JUSTICE IS THE POINTE

Justice is the Pointe is a 12-month collaborative racial justice advertising campaign in the Grosse Pointe Times and social media. WE GP together with the Grosse Pointe-Harper Woods Branch of the NAACP and local activists Bianca Garcia, Graig Donnelly, and Frank Joyce, will focus the Justice is the Pointe campaign on increasing education, awareness, and advocacy around racial justice in our wider community. We welcome your support!

The ad campaign began in the Grosse Pointe Times on January 28 and will continue for all of 2021.  February 1st a link to the campaign appeared in the WE GP newsletter.

Get the facts

If you believe in WE GP’s mission to resist attacks on civil and human rights, to promote local, state and national policy and legislation in line with our guiding principles, and to build a community that supports the basic human rights and dignity of all, then you have a responsibility to understand what lies behind this attack on critical race theory. Only by arming ourselves with knowledge and truth can we protect the progress of civil rights activists of the past and lay the path for racial equity in the future, in particular when it comes to the education of generations of young people upon whom our future rests.

This video by Khiara M. Bridges, a professor at UC Berkeley School of Law, addresses common misconceptions about CRT.

In this interview on NPR’s Fresh Air, NBC reporter Tyler Kingkade explores who is waging this fight, and why.

Want to know the facts behind the CRT debate? According to this op-ed by Ibram X. Kendi in The Atlantic, there is no debate over critical race theory. Pundits and politicians have created their own definition for the term, then set about attacking it.

Here’s what you need to know about critical race theory in Michigan, from Bridge Michigan.

A helpful resource by a local resident, Andrea Daniel--LTHI Global

Is critical race theory a way of understanding how American racism has shaped public policy, or a divisive discourse that pits people of color against white people? Liberals and conservatives are in sharp disagreement, according to this article in Education Week.

How you can help

Now that you are armed with facts, help spread the message. Write a letter to the editor. Share a post or article on Facebook or Twitter. Make your thoughts known to the GPPSS Board of Education by sending an email or making a public comment at a meeting. Talk to your friends, neighbors and family members to help dispel the myths. Stand up and speak up against this attack on our basic core values as American citizens seeking equity, justice and equal opportunity for all.

Please consider donating to help us counter the narrative of the other local media though our Justice is the Pointe series.
